Why we use WordPress to build websites

There’s no shortage of website platforms available today. From all-in-one builders to highly technical frameworks, the options are wider than ever. So it’s reasonable for clients to ask why we still choose WordPress as the foundation for most of the websites we build. The short answer is simple: it works. But more importantly, it works in a way that aligns with how we build websites and how our clients operate.

1. It’s flexible without being limiting

Businesses evolve. Products change. Services expand. Messaging shifts. A website platform should be able to grow alongside that.

WordPress gives us flexibility without locking clients into rigid systems. We can build:

  • Brochure websites
  • eCommerce stores
  • Content-heavy websites
  • Multi-location organisations
  • Membership or gated areas

Without rebuilding everything from scratch when needs change.

That flexibility allows us to think long-term. We’re not designing just for today’s brief – we’re building something that can adapt.

2. You retain ownership and control

Some platforms operate within closed ecosystems. Moving away later can be difficult or restrictive.

WordPress is open and widely supported. That means:

  • Hosting is flexible
  • The site structure belongs to you
  • You are not tied to one provider

We believe clients should have control over their own digital assets. WordPress helps ensure that remains the case.

3. It supports structured, well-organised content

At Redback, we care about clarity. Navigation. Hierarchy. Content that reads properly and performs properly.

WordPress allows us to build structured content systems rather than simple page collections. That includes:

  • Clearly defined service areas
  • Blog and news systems
  • Case study frameworks
  • Custom content layouts

That structure benefits SEO, usability and long-term content management.

It supports growth rather than constraining it.

4. It integrates with wider digital marketing

Websites rarely operate alone.

They need to connect with:

  • Search engine optimisation
  • Email marketing
  • Advertising platforms
  • CRM systems
  • Analytics and reporting tools

WordPress integrates reliably with all of these. It doesn’t restrict marketing strategy or create unnecessary workarounds.

That flexibility allows us to support clients well beyond launch day.

5. It’s established and widely supported

WordPress powers a significant portion of the internet. That scale matters.

It means:

  • Continuous development
  • A large support ecosystem
  • Security updates
  • Skilled developers available long-term
  • Choosing a platform is partly about stability

We’ve been building websites in Northern Ireland since 1999. We prefer technologies that show the same steady, established growth.

WordPress has done that.

6. It fits how we work

Perhaps most importantly, WordPress allows us to build websites that reflect our values:

  • Clear structure
  • Considered design
  • Long-term reliability
  • Straightforward user editing
  • Sustainable development

We’re not interested in short-lived trends or proprietary systems that make future changes difficult.

We choose platforms that allow us to focus on outcomes rather than limitations.

Is WordPress right for every business?

Not necessarily.

There are situations where alternative platforms make sense, particularly for very specific use cases. We always advise based on what will best support a client’s goals.

But for the majority of businesses we work with – schools, manufacturers, professional services, hospitality, retail and more – WordPress continues to provide the flexibility, stability and control required for long-term success.

A platform should support your business, not dictate it

Ultimately, the platform behind your website should feel invisible. It should enable growth, not create barriers.

We continue to use WordPress because it gives our clients control, flexibility and long-term reassurance.

And after more than 25 years building websites, those qualities matter more than novelty.
