Choosing the appropriate look for your brand

30th Jun

Branding is vital for any business as it communicated to customers your identity. Your branding should reflect what your business does as it can determine if people will be interested in your brand. For instance, if you have a poor brand, potential customers may think that it is very unprofessional and they may choose to shop somewhere else. Here are some different things that you will need to consider when you create your brand.

Name

The name of your business or brand is vital when it comes to business. You should pick a name that reflects on the goods or services that you sell. It should also be something that is easy to remember and not too long. There is a higher chance that customers will gain interest in your brand if the name is quick and memorable. Before designing your logo, it is very important that you have decided at least one or two brand names.

Logo

Your logo will be important as it is something that your customers will use to try to remember your business. When designing your logo, you may come up with different ideas before settling on the final version. Ideally, your logo should reflect on your business and the products that you sell. Additionally, you should make sure that your logo is not overcomplicated. Do this by taking an almost minimalist approach, as you will need to ensure that when the logo is scaled up or down, all aspects of it are still visible. Your logo could be a simple vector image, or you could include your brand name or initials somewhere within. This would be quite beneficial as it would help recognition of your business and customers would find it easier to associate the logo to the name of the business.

Slogan

The slogan of your brand should be kept short if possible. You want something that your customers will be able to remember off the top of their heads. The slogan could possibly rhyme to make this easier, and it must relate to your business and your brand.

Colours

The colours that you use in your brand must be consistent throughout. The logo, website and any other assets that you use to advertise your website (such as social media posts) should follow the same colour scheme. The colours should also relate to your business in some way. For instance, if your business focuses on outdoor products or activities, you may want to use a blue and green colour palette.

Typography

This is also known as the font. The typography that you use in your branding and a website should be the same. It is recommended that you use no more than two fonts (i.e. one for headings and titles, and one for the main content of your website). These fonts should be professional and reflect on your business. It is also important to make sure that your font size is large enough to read on different devices.

Competition

Another thing which may be important when creating you brand is to look at other competitors in the market. You may want to look at competitors who are selling similar products to you to see how they brand their business. It might also be useful to see what prices that they are selling their products to see if you are in roughly the same price range.
